How to calculate bricks
Modular brick with ⅜ in joint → 6.75 bricks per sq ft
Example: a brick veneer wall 25 ft long and 8 ft high is 200 sq ft. In modular brick that's 1,350 bricks, plus 5% ≈ 1,418 bricks.
Bricks per square foot
| Brick | Actual size (in) | Per sq ft (⅜ in joint) |
|---|---|---|
| Modular | 2¼ × 7⅝ | 6.75 |
| Standard | 2¼ × 8 | 6.55 |
| Queen | 2¾ × 7⅝ | 5.76 |
| King | 2⅝ × 9⅝ | 4.8 |
| Utility | 3⅝ × 11⅝ | 3.0 |
Figures are for a single wythe (one brick thick) in running bond. For a double-wythe wall, double the count.
How much mortar?
A rough rule is one 80 lb bag of mortar mix per 30–35 modular bricks — about 3 bags per 100 bricks. The calculator uses about one bag per 5 sq ft of wall. Check the coverage on your bag; joint size and waste change it a lot.
